Getting started

In this guide, you will find details about how to locate the title of your historical award as well as where you can search for information about your award. We have only listed information about NSW historical awards in this guide.

Before 2010, most awards were covered by the NSW state award system. These awards were administered by NSW Industrial Relations. In this guide we refer to these as historical awards. After 1 January 2010, most of these awards were streamlined into modern awards administered by Fair Work Australia.

Planning to do your research at the Library? We suggest you allow at least 2 to 3 hours to research historical awards.

You will need to sign up for a Library card to request items from our collection.

The State Library can assist you with access to award information as published in the New South Wales Industrial Gazettes. However, we are not industrial award specialists. Whilst every effort is made to provide the most current and accurate information, we do not assume responsibility for any errors or omissions in the information provided or for any action taken in reliance on this information.

Award wage rate information should be read in conjunction with the appropriate award and industrial relations legislation.
