Sarah Ward was convicted by a jury of the murder of Eli Westlake. In the early hours of 7 June 2008 there was an altercation between Ward and a group of young people. She followed the group in her car, and deliberately drove her motor vehicle at the group killing Eli Westlake. They had all consumed alcohol, but Sarah Ward had consumed a large amount of alcohol and ecstasy before getting in the car. Ward was sentenced to 25 years – including 18 years and nine months non parole and a balance of 6 years and three months.
