Searching the online catalogue

The first step in accessing maps from the Library collection, is to search the online catalogue.

When you've found a map, you can access items from the map collection in two ways:  

  1. Search the online catalogue

    • ​​You can view thousands of digitised sheet maps from anywhere, anytime.
  2. Visit the Library

    • If you're in the Library, please speak to a staff member to discuss your request and complete a request slip.
    • If you want to request material before you visit the Library, complete the Access to Special Collections Request form.

Searching the online catalogue

To begin your search in the online catalogue, enter your search query and select  'Maps' from the drop-down list under Formats:

By selecting 'Online', from the Access filter on the right, you can reduce your search results to only display maps that have an online copy.

  • State Library Digital collection: These are digitised copies, taken from physical maps in the Library's collection.
  • Resource - Freely Accessible - All maps that are available online, including other locations such as Trove.
  • Resource - Log in with a library card - These are available to view by logging in with a library card number.

To see the map, click on its title and open the viewer for the digitised copy: 

Once in viewer mode, scroll down to see thumbnail images of all maps in the album. Click on the thumbnail to navigate to the next image:
