The Library’s collection extends far beyond the walls of our reading rooms and galleries, with access to millions of articles available to NSW residents at home through our eResources — a collection of academic and reference databases, eReading platforms and more.
Membership of the State Library of NSW is open to all, but access to our eResources is limited to residents of NSW. Proof of NSW residency is established when you sign up for a Library card, either by showing identification at a service point, or by receiving your card in the mail. Alternatively, register a NSW public library card for access to our eResources.
The Library’s eResources include a range of databases which provide full-text coverage of newspapers from Australia and around the world. This includes databases dedicated to a single publication such as The Sydney Morning Herald, The Daily Mail and The Times. Others include a range of full-text articles from a wide variety of different titles. Among the most useful aggregated databases are the following:
In an Australian context, in most cases Trove is the best place to go for historic newspaper coverage, with millions of newspapers articles covering the years 1803-1954. The Library’s eResource collection includes many databases providing full-text access to historical newspaper articles. This includes major titles from the US and the UK, in some cases going back to the 17th century.
